PH3’s Craft Brewery Tour: Orlando Brewing

This month, the PH3 Orlando Craft Brewery Tour continued with our recent visit to Orlando Brewing over on Atlanta Ave. They first opened their doors in 2004 on Gore St., then moved to their current location in Orlando’s industrial district, away from the tourists and just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Orlando. Orlando Brewing’s exterior may not seem like much from the outside (it essentially looks like a warehouse), however, this is a place that should be at the top of every true beer lover’s brewery bucket list.

What sets them apart from the rest?

Orlando Brewing

Orlando Brewing is Florida’s only USDA certified organic brewery. They brew in accordance with the Reinheitsgebot German Purity Law of 1516, using only hops, malted barley, water, and yeast. All ingredients used in their beer are organic and grown without any insecticides, genetically engineered food, genetically modified organisms, sewage sludge, or irradiation.

Orlando Brewing is also a proud Florida Agri-business and was the first brewery to be declared ‘Fresh from Florida’ by the State of Florida’s Department of Agriculture.

The beer low-down

As with our previous visits, we decided to wet our whistles with a few beer flights from their vast variety of hand-crafted brews on tap (24 magnificent taps, to be exact). We have to be honest, it was tough narrowing it down to our favorite three, but here they are:

  • Orlando Weiss, 3.6% ABV
A wonderfully refreshing lagered wheat beer, perfect for those sweltering summer days. It went down pretty darn quick.
  • Papa Midnight Imperial Stout, 9% ABV
Now, this was tasty! With deep roasted coffee and dark chocolate that perfectly complemented the flavors of coconut, almond, and vanilla. A true winner.
  • Hopgasmic West Coast IPA, 7.3% ABV
This IPA packs a punch but was surprisingly not too bitter. Hopped with organic Magnum, Centennial, & Cascade during a 90-minute boil, then dry hopped with a hefty amount of organic Cascade, this organic IPA delivers an intense citrusy and floral aroma.

Our brilliant conclusion

Orlando Brewing’s motto is ‘Darn Good Beer’, and they sure do live up to that statement. Coming up next on our Orlando craft brewery tour: Bowigens Beer Company
