PH3’s Craft Brewery Tour: Deadly Sins Brewing
February brought in a new visit on the PH3 Orlando Craft Brewery Tour in the form of Deadly Sins Brewing on Jackson Ave in Winter Park.
Gettin’ Crafty in the Mountains
A year before their October 2016 grand opening, owners Tom Adams and Ana Barrientos were discussing their next steps after vacationing in Asheville, NC, a craft brewery haven. From that trip, they were inspired to embark on their own brewery adventure. Tom had been homebrewing on and off for 15 years and within 3 months of that discussion, he drafted a business plan, secured a loan, and in November 2015 the lease was signed for their Jackson Avenue location.
Space to Envy
The brewery is housed in a 4,000 square foot property located on an industrial block of Winter Park, off Fairbanks and behind 4Rivers Smokehouse. The company brews on a seven-barrel system with plenty of space to grow.
Our (Slightly) Slothful Visit
On a somewhat chilly, crisp afternoon, we arrived just after their doors opened for the day at 4pm. Why don’t they open until the early evening Monday to Friday? Because all their employees have daytime jobs. (Which is really the opposite of slothful, if you think about it.) Deadly Sins has a warehouse feel with 2 large garage-style doors that open up to the outdoors and a pet-friendly policy, making it the perfect after-work hangout.
Greedy for Flights
There’s no better way to sample the best of what any brewery has to offer than taking off with a flight. After feeling tempted by all their “Sinfully Good Beer”, we chose three for our #PH3topBrews list:
For All Mankind, Porter, 5.3% ABV - A roasty Porter using Lager yeast, which has fantastic body and flavor, smooth like silk and surprisingly not too sweet.
The Grove IPA, 6.4% ABV - With its golden orange color and sweet aromas of grapefruit, lemon, and orange, this Indian Pale Ale is a true Florida IPA.
Side Chick Blonde, 5.5% ABV - This blonde ale has it going on. Refreshing, smooth, sessionable...just don’t take her home to mama.
The Deadly Verdict
Deadly Sins Brewing is somewhat quietly going about their business in a way that keeps us wanting to come back to see what they’ll do next. Their journey has just begun, but they’re well on the way to becoming a top contender on the ever-growing Orlando Brewery list.
