PH3’s Craft Brewery Tour: Bowigens Beer Company

We kicked off October with another installment of the PH3 Orlando Craft Brewery tour by visiting Bowigens Beer Company in Casselberry.

The Lay of The Land

Bowigens Beer Company

Established by two long-time friends, Kevin Wigen and Bobby Bowen, who learned their trade in local breweries, Bowigens officially opened their doors in 2015 and since then they’ve been pumping out some real quality brews. We turned up on a rainy Friday afternoon after a long week of creating awesomeness for our clients, and the first thing we noticed was how cozy Bowigens is, with the taproom itself being what may have used to be a small cafe or eatery previously. It’s the smallest brewery we’ve visited to date, but we had plenty of seating options, with stools at the bar, a handful of tables and a sofa area. The brewery is approximately 1,000 square feet and features a 3-vessel brewhouse, 5 fermenters, and 1 brite tank. Their brewhouse also features custom-fitted fermenters and a custom cooling system, which is the only one of its kind in the area.

We Took Flight

The guys at Bowigens have fun coming up with their brew names and as always, we took to our beer flights. Here are a few that caught our taste buds:

  • Frozen Tundra, 6.8% ABV
This flavorful white IPA with lemongrass and coriander was a hit from the first sip. The unusual ingredients complimented each other perfectly.
  • We Do What Wee Want, 8.6% ABV
This deep, malt flavor scotch ale had an ever-so-slight bitterness to it, which made it extremely drinkable (especially if you’ve had a rough day).
  • Star Cruiser, 8.4% ABV
With aromas of citrus, pine and a hint of caramel, this West Coast imperial red ale is amped up with a whole lot of hops, a slightly bitter grapefruit flavor, and sweet toasted malt.

Our Brewclusion

Bowigens says they’re “Recrafting Perceptions” and that’s most certainly true with the wonderfully unique craft beers they’re producing, so it’s well worth the drive to Casselberry. This hidden gem is a favorite among locals, and it's easy to see why.
